From the very beginning, I knew this session needed to feel adventurous. De'Nalee loves being outdoors, she's always up for trying something new, and she absolutely loves the water. Instead of choosing a typical park or downtown location, I wanted to create something that felt completely personalized to her.
As a Wichita, Kansas Senior Portrait Photographer, I reached out to the incredible team at the Ninnescah Sailing Club on Cheney Lake to see if we could make something unforgettable happen.
And wow... did they deliver.
None of us had ever been on a sailboat before, so the entire experience was just as exciting for me as it was for De'Nalee! The Commodore welcomed us aboard and made the whole morning fun, relaxed, and full of adventure. It didn't feel like just another senior photo session, it felt like we were making memories together.
The funny thing is? The whole reason Cheney Lake even has a sailing club is because it's usually known for being windy.
The one morning we planned this session... Not a single breeze.
The water looked like glass, perfectly reflecting the bright blue Kansas sky. It honestly couldn't have been a more beautiful morning. Every direction we turned offered another incredible backdrop, making it feel like we had an endless collection of locations all in one place.
One of my favorite parts of working with seniors is helping them plan every detail, and De'Nalee completely trusted me with her outfit.
When we started talking about the vision for her session, I knew we needed something elegant, something that would complement the sailboat while creating an editorial, high-fashion feel.
So yes... I actually found myself shopping at Ross looking for the perfect outfit.
The moment my husband found this gorgeous one-piece jumpsuit, I knew it was the one.
Once De'Nalee stepped onto the sailboat wearing it, everything came together perfectly. She looked like she had been modeling her entire life. The clean lines of the outfit, the reflections on the water, and the sailboat itself created a look that felt straight out of a magazine.
This session is exactly why I believe senior photography is about so much more than showing up with a camera.
