Love + adventure

Mallerie and Alyssa had gotten engaged a few months back when Mallerie had proposed to her during a family session. They had been wanting engagement photo's for a while now and when we had finally gotten some BEAUTIFUL weather here in Kansas we decided to take advantage and get creative! I have always wanted to do an air mattress on the water so when we decided we would do something creative they were all for it! It's funny though, Mallerie really had to take a step out of her comfort zone for this one, but Alyssa was right there next to her reassuring her it was all fine!

We decided that lake Afton was the best spot for this idea so we drove out, found the spot and got to work. The day before KANSAS was given the opportunity to see the Northern Lights AND it was great weather for camping so the lake was pretty full which means.... people were definitely judging us for blowing up and air mattress and throwing it into the lake.. but I honestly don't think there's a difference between that and a floaty right??! I mean, they both float! Anyway, once we got it in the water we all got in, yes.. including me, the photographer... and began photographing. The vibe for this session was very candid like, editorial style so we did a lot of prompts that involved lots of movement and natural smiles. But who am I kidding, once they were already in the water and on the air mattress, they knew to just trust the process and their photographer and began to be themselves.
