Great Plains Nature Center was the perfect spot for Alexis's idea on their engagement session. It's full of tall grass, green trees and in the spring time they have the beautiful cherry blossoms blooming! As soon as I saw them in the parking lot of the park I knew how beautiful this whole experience was going to be! She told me she had picked out their outfits that went along with their wedding theme, which was brilliant because when using save the dates it's important to use images that flow with your wedding day style. She wore a beautiful beige dress with flowers while Taven wore beige pants, a light blue long sleeve and a nice vest. The whole time was full of fun, laughter, and talking about Taylor Swift (they're HUGE fans, yes even Taven!)! They were so much fun to work with and I couldn't have been more excited to capture their wedding day!

Starting the day with details, Chelsey and I walked down to their ceremony area that had a beautiful wooden arch with gorgeous white drapery and floral. The venue was actually a family members farm out in Garden Plain, KS. It had a beautiful blue pond with a huge deck on acres of farm land and trees with plenty of opportunities for beautiful images! Their reception was being held inside of their barn which was nothing less than stunning! Inside were tables lined with blue linen, white candles and vases full of baby's breath. The sheer white curtains hanging from the ceiling with little tea lights added perfection and elegance!
When it came time for their first look and private vows, there was no doubt we had to do it on the dock overlooking the pond. We set Taven in the center facing the water while Alexis's mother drove her down so she wouldn't walk in the mud. It had rained the day before so we had to be careful with where we placed everyone for pictures! I knew I wanted a wide angle shot of Alexis walking up behind him with her gorgeous veil flowing in the wind so we hid ourselves close enough to zoom in but far enough to capture the perfect wide angle shot. It was so beautiful to see this couple I had just spent the last three months getting to know sharing the promises they vowed to keep to one another. Hearing the promises that mean absolutely everything to them, melts my heart. Just when I thought I was doing good at holding back the tears, Alexis's mother told me the sweetest thing any client of mine had ever said. She said.. thank you. Thank you for making my girl feel so beautiful and confident. Thank you for showing her the beauty that everyone else see's in her. I couldn't help but shed a few tears. It was so special to me that she chose to tell me just how much my photographs meant to her and Alexis. That was the moment I truly realized that my photographs are more than just pictures, they're more than just a service.. They're the experience a bride feels that changes the way she see's herself. They're the confidence and the beauty my brides feel! Hearing and knowing that, makes my job THAT much more special and it's what makes me push myself to help more brides!
Ending the day with sunset portraits was the perfecting ending to a perfect day. We walked down to the pond for photos on the dock and finished in the field with my favorite pose, face to face under the veil. I love this pose because it shows the intimacy between the couple and framing the veil around them adds an artistic feel to the image. Needless to say, Taven and Alexis's wedding was absolutely perfect, elegant and special in so many ways. Enjoy some of my most favorite images below!
