Going to the chapel..


Carolyn and Ben wanted something small and simple to celebrate their marriage with friends and family, and that's exactly what they got! Their venue was at TAAG church in Goddard, KS. When I arrived it was decorated beautifully with white drapery for the ceremony and hanging green succulents from the aisles. In the front of the church were huge windows with a nice seating chair that I just KNEW would make for a gorgeous indoor portrait area and I was so right.. To keep consistency in their gallery we decided to do both Carolyn's and Ben's individual portraits here! The natural light from the window just beamed rays of sunshine onto Carolyn, elevating her beauty and elegance. I normally wouldn't like bold background colors in my wedding galleries but because blue was one of Carolyn's favorite colors, the blue wall behind her actually photographed pretty well and really tied their whole gallery together! They both decided not to do a first look with each other but instead opted for a first touch, which I thought was so romantic that they wanted to share this intimate moment with each other. Anytime a bride asks me if it's worth the extra time for either a first look or first touch, my answer will ALWAYS be yes! Following a beautiful ceremony and family formals, it was time for my most favorite part of a wedding day - bride & groom portraits! As much as I loved the look of the corner window, I knew we needed some variety to avoid too much consistency so we did just a few inside before retreating to the bright outdoors! One of the reasons why wedding photography should only be for the experienced photographers is because of all the different lighting scenarios you will face in a single wedding day. We can't always control what lighting we're in and we can't control the weather! Along with fighting the bright light, the location was limited to what we could use for a background and we ended up using a row of trees off to the side of the church. This actually ended up being perfect because Carolyn was a fan of the winter tones (neutral, brown, light, tan) and empty trees! Regardless of the different lighting scenarios and limited photo opportunities, Carolyn and Ben had a beautiful wedding day and a beautiful wedding gallery! Below are some of my favorites from their wedding day!
